About Our Project

To further our mission of bringing joy to those who need it most, the Upon A Star Project was born in May 2022 to create light in some of the darkest moments for little ones and their loved ones. This project gives families the ability to nominate a deserving STAR child, whether their own, a family member, friend or a child in their community for a special visit from their favorite character at no cost to the family. The best part is that this project does not only apply to the Northwest, as our characters can also lift spirits anywhere in the world through our virtual visit offerings. We want to make sure each little STAR receives as personalized and special of an experience as possible!

Our Inspiration and Original Star, Marissela

Shortly after opening WYW, we received the special blessing of visiting sweet Marissela at Seattle Children's Hospital who was bravely undergoing treatment for leukimia. During this first hospital visit from our Princesses, we were struck by how great the need was as parents would rush to their children's hospital doors and ask us to visit their little fighters too. In the subsequent days after initially meeting Marissela, we were given the honors of escorting her and her family to the Seattle airport as they departed for Disneyworld and celebrating her big birthday out of the hospital. Dear, strong, spirited and beautiful Marissela gained her angel wings in May 2021 and it has been heavily laid on our hearts to find a way to expand our reach of these precious little ones after our first impactful meeting with Mari. This project is dedicated to her and the precious Orejuela family.
